Private Lessons

Ms. Stephanie draws on nearly a decade of teaching music to ensure that lessons are tailored to each student’s specific needs and interests. Regardless of age, instrument, and ability level, they will:

  • learn to play their instrument with proper/healthy technique.

  • have opportunities to improvise and compose their own musical ideas.

  • learn music theory concepts and how to read/understand music notation.

Piano

  • Ms. Stephanie specializes in early childhood piano lessons for ages 4-6. (She completed the Piano, Level 1 certification from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning). These engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons work on developing students’ “inner ear” through singing games and their rhythmic competency/coordination through movement activities. Marilyn Lowe’s Keyboard Games: Book A is used to encourage students to explore the whole keyboard, improvise, and experience ensemble playing. Students are exposed to music notation and music theory concepts, but it is not a focus at this age.

  • Beginner through intermediate lessons are also available for students age 7+. These lessons dig deeper into the musicianship and keyboard skills that are introduced in early childhood lessons and they incorporate more formal instruction of music theory concepts.

Trumpet

  • Ms. Stephanie’s primary instrument when she earned her degree in music education at Michigan State University was the trumpet. Her focus was classical trumpet but she also studied jazz and played in jazz ensembles.

  • Lessons are available for all ages.

  • Lessons can be used to help improve technical proficiency, practice music for school ensembles, prepare solos for auditions, and practice sight-reading.

Guitar/Ukulele

  • Lessons are available for beginners of all ages.

  • Based on their level of interest, students will learn:

    • songwriting techniques

    • how to tune their instrument

    • how to play melodies and harmonic accompaniments

    • how to read TAB notation and traditional music notation

Pricing/Scheduling

  • Lesson price rates are based on a sliding scale to accommodate your family’s budgetary needs.

  • Pair and small group lessons are offered for all instruments at a discounted price per student and are highly encouraged for early childhood piano students, so let me know if your child has friends who are also interested in lessons!
