About Me:
At the Michigan State University Community Music School-Detroit you can find me teaching music classes to children ages 4-8, including early childhood piano classes.
At various childcare and community centers throughout the city of Detroit I teach early childhood music classes to infants, toddlers, and young children. Additionally, I teach private individual and small group lessons to students on the trumpet, piano, ukulele, and guitar throughout the metro-Detroit area.
Before working at the MSU Community Music School, I was an elementary music teacher for 7 years. I was the music teacher at Auburn Elementary in the Avondale School District and before that I taught K-8 music at Regent Park Scholars Charter Academy in Detroit.
I first fell in love with making music when I began playing the trumpet in 5th grade. Trumpet-playing helped me meet some of my closest friends, favorite teachers, and best mentors. It also helped me go to college at Michigan State University, where I received my undergraduate degree in music education.
While I attended MSU, I played in the Spartan Marching Band, Symphony Band, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra II, and an honors brass quintet. After college, I played cornet and tenor horn in various brass bands throughout Michigan, including the nationally acclaimed Five Lakes Silver Band—see below to learn more about the band.
