PerformingAt Auburn Elementary we are extremely fortunate to have a variety of drums and Orff instruments which we often use to accompany the songs and musical games we play in second grade. We also look at what music notation for familiar songs looks like and we begin to really dig into learning what musical symbols mean and how they sound. CreatingIn second grade, creativity in music class includes improvising beatboxing patterns in the context of a familiar song, writing new words to a familiar song, working as a class to compose a melody for a familiar chant or poem...and more. RespondingStudents continue to build their vocabulary for describing and reflecting on music. They begin to identify and describe the differences between major/minor and duple/triple. They also begin to learn to identify harmonic functions.
